Achiever 5.8 API Preview: Unlocking Next Level Connectivity and Digital Workflow Automation

Modernising integrations with the Achiever 5.8 API

Thursday 26th March 2026 | 2:00 pm (GMT)

Presented by Paul Ward, Technical Consultant, Interactive Software

Join us on Thursday 26th March at 2:00 pm (GMT) for an exclusive customer-only webinar where we will showcase the Achiever 5.8 API Preview, the next step in enabling connected digital operations across your organisation.

This upcoming release marks a significant step forward in how Achiever connects with other systems. The new API framework introduces a modern, scalable architecture designed to support faster, more secure and more flexible integrations across a laboratory’s digital environment.

During the webinar, Paul Ward, Technical Consultant at Interactive Software, will explore the expanded reach of the Achiever 5.8 API, what the updates mean for your automation pipelines, how the new APIs strengthen interoperability with instruments, applications and enterprise systems, and the role of auditability in maintaining secure, governed digital workflows.

Who should attend the webinar?

This webinar will be particularly relevant if your organisation:

  • Already uses Achiever for workflows, compliance or laboratory processes.
  • Is planning to automate data flows between Achiever and other systems.
  • Needs reliable connectivity between instruments, applications and analysis tools.
  • Wants to reduce manual work and increase process transparency.

How Achiever APIs enable secure, scalable system connectivity

Whether you are involved in laboratory operations, research support, quality management or systems integration, this session will provide practical information into what the new API can enable within your Achiever software. The webinar will also demonstrate how organisations can use these improvements to build more connected, automated and governed workflows within Achiever.

API

What’s new in the Achiever 5.8 API Framework

The Achiever 5.8 API framework introduces a modern integration model built around REST APIs, JSON data exchange and OpenAPI documentation. This update brings a range of practical improvements for both developers and organisations integrating Achiever into wider digital ecosystems.

The new Achiever APIs are faster, more secure and easier to use, enabling Achiever to integrate seamlessly with the modern systems organisations depend on. Building on Achiever’s intuitive drag-and-drop process designer, robust governance capabilities and secure workflow engine, the Achiever 5.8 API developments extend these strengths beyond the platform itself. This allows organisations to connect Achiever more easily with the wider systems their teams rely on while supporting more connected and automated digital workflows.

OpenAPI (Swagger) documentation

  • OpenAPI (Swagger) documentation that automatically describes available endpoints, making the API self-documenting and easier for developers to understand and implement.

Modern REST architecture

  • Modern REST architecture using JSON, improving performance, scalability and efficiency.

OAuth 2.0 authentication

  • OAuth 2.0 authentication, token-based authentication supporting certificates and secrets aligned with modern cybersecurity and regulatory standards.

Full CRUD support

  • Full CRUD capabilities (Create, Read, Update, Delete) across schema-driven data models, allowing richer integrations and more flexible automation.

Performance and developer improvements

  • Improved performance and scalability, with REST APIs that are easier to cache, handle larger loads and operate more efficiently.
  • Enhanced developer experience, including improved error handling and a built-in “Try it out” feature for testing requests that are currently in development.

Why integration matters

As organisations increasingly rely on multiple digital tools, the ability for those systems to exchange information easily and securely becomes essential. Achiever supports this through a modern integration framework built around two key capabilities:

  • Achiever APIs: Allowing external systems to send information into Achiever or request data from it.
  • Achiever Connectors: Allowing Achiever to communicate with external systems.

Together, these capabilities enable information to move smoothly between Achiever and the wider systems used across your organisation.

Achiever APIs: bringing data into Achiever

Achiever APIs enable external systems to send information to Achiever or retrieve data from it, supporting a range of integration and automation scenarios.

Hook APIs for event‑driven automation

Hook APIs function as event-driven triggers that initiate actions within Achiever. For example, laboratory instruments may transmit a request to create a new sample, external systems may notify Achiever that a batch process has completed, or equipment may update the status of an operational task. Once triggered, Achiever validates the request, processes the submitted data and executes the relevant workflow within the platform.

Data APIs for reporting and insight

Alongside this, data APIs provide secure, read-only access to structured Achiever data. This supports reporting, dashboards, BI platforms and data‑warehousing systems by allowing authorised tools to retrieve information such as samples, batches, jobs, customers, products, tests and results, while maintaining strict control over data access.

Role-Based permissions and auditability

All API interactions are secured through OAuth 2.0 authentication, with access permissions managed via registered clients and role-based authorisation controls.

Achiever Connectors: extending automation beyond the platform

While APIs allow systems to communicate with Achiever, Connectors allow Achiever workflows to communicate with external platforms.

This enables workflows to:

  • Retrieve information from external systems.
  • Send data to partner systems.
  • Push updates to other platforms.
  • Check external services for the latest information.

When a workflow calls a Connector, Achiever sends a request to the external system, receives the response and can then display or store the returned data before continuing the workflow.

Connectors support modern API standards including JSON, XML and REST, as well as healthcare standards such as FHIR, and can be used within Achiever workflows through HTTP steps, widget steps or JSON parsing steps.

What this means for Achiever 5.8

The Achiever 5.8 API builds on its current capabilities to help organisations extend their automation and integration strategies.

Key benefits include the ability to:

  • Extend process designer power beyond Achiever: Achiever workflows can connect with external systems, expanding automation across your broader IT ecosystem.
  • Automate more of your SOP lifecycle: Tasks can be triggered, statuses synchronised and data moved between systems with minimal manual intervention.
  • Confidently connect instruments, applications and enterprise systems: Integrations support real-time synchronisation while maintaining security and consistency.
  • Maintain end-to-end auditability: API activity can be tracked and logged, supporting visibility and governance across connected processes.

Secure your place

This is a customer-only event, and places are limited. Register now to see how the Achiever 5.8 API Preview can help simplify integrations, strengthen automation and support secure digital workflows across your organisation.
